Urban design Glass and Energy Campus Venlo

The Sunrise Campus is located in Trade Port West, Venlo. It serves as an open innovation campus for companies and institutes who have their main focus on glass and energy. The presence of Scheuten Solar & Glass on this site is crucial. Half of the terrain is reserved for production halls, the other half for offices and R&D which are located around a central green area.

In this green heart of the Sunrise Campus storm water is collected and waste water is biologically purified. Therefore the campus will not be connected to the sewage system. The roofs are used as large solar fields. The use of aquifers and a CHP (Combined Heat and Power plant) will greatly reduce the need for fossil fuels. Building materials shall be non-toxic and reusable.

Centrally located on the site we find the Biotope. It is a multifunctional building which can be used by the employees of Scheuten as well as other employees. It holds facilities like a restaurant, a day-care, a fitness and meeting rooms. The Biotope serves as a meeting place where the exchange of knowledge can take place, which is crucial for open innovation. The Biotope will become an icon for the campus, like the campus itself will become an icon for the city of Venlo. Its outspoken architectural form (where glass and energy will play a major role) and its green setting will add up to the iconic character of the Biotope.
